"Keeping you safe is our most important responsibility on Facebook," posted on Facebook’s official safety page as they announce a new feature, a tool that will provide support to people who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts. Anyone who sees a Facebook post on their timeline that appears to them to be suicidal can report it directly to Facebook, then it will review by a trained team of specialists.
The team will contact the person who reported the post to offer them an option of calling or messaging their friend first, and give them an opportunity to get advice from a trained professional as well.
This feature will be rolling out in the US for the next few months. It is still unclear if this will be available for elsewhere, but it is confirmed that Facebook still working on the improvement to have it a worldwide release.
