A man suffered from second and third degree burns on his inner thigh after his phone exploded, just moments after he and his brother arrived at their cousin's wake. According to the iPhone user named Erik Johnson, he was just bent over to pick up his keys and he didn't do anything to make his phone did it. The result puts him into the hospital for a week.
“I had the phone in my pocket, simple little gesture, bent over to get keys and all I heard was pop, Ssssssssh smoke coming out. And just like an instant burn,” Johnson explained to ABC7.
“… I think the phone melted my pockets shut so I couldn’t get into it and I had to rip my pants off and throw the pants to the side. A couple of people actually said they could smell my body burning,” he added.
Johnson hired an attorney — Mike Della. He says Apple needs to be more thorough in the safety of their products as it might also happened to anyone, even in a child.
According to ABC7 News, Apple is investigating the incident,
Apple iPhones had a history of exploding incidents. In previous cases, another man had the same occurrence, but it was an iPhone 6 that exploded in his pocket. Another woman experienced burns on her chest while recharging iPhone.
